a new blog

i'm starting this new blog today - mostly as a food journal. i want to write down everything i eat because i think that accounting for my eating will force me to make better, healthier, choices. i also love cooking and writing and thinking about food. so, to start, this is a food journal. but we'll see how it goes from there.

breakfast (7am)
one slice of homemade english muffin bread, toasted with about 1 tb crunchy peanut butter
4 oz. orange juice
vitamin
coffee with skim milk and 1 tsp sugar

it's unusual for me to have orange juice with my breakfast, but we had tons of juice leftover from the baby shower mimosas. i really enjoyed it - carly picked out the good stuff. i also loved every bite of my PB toast. that english muffin bread is fantastic, even a few days old. i made it in my beloved bread machine on saturday morning.

snack (10am)
Fiber One granola bar
half of a too-ripe banana (ick)

lunch (noonish)
Amy's brand bean & rice burrito (non dairy)
about 8 baby carrots
about 1/2 cup of greek yogurt with a cute sidecar of cherry sauce

snack (2pm ish)
generous handful of blueberries

this was the first time i'd tried greek yogurt - it seems to be all the rage recently. i bought the "fage" brand and mistakenly got the full fat. with a whopping 12g of fat per serving, i didn't want to eat the whole thing. my verdict - at first, it seemed overly sour but i got used to it. the cherry sauce was really good with the yogurt and cut the sourness. i think i'll buy it again, in the lower-fat variety. i bought my hunny the honey flavor (in the 2% variety) and he said it was just "okay."

dinner (6:30pm)
pasta (thin spaghetti) with jarred marinara sauce
one turkey italian sausage
parmesan cheese sprinkled on top
small salad (mixed greens, heirloom tomato, and cukes) with light raspberry vin dressing
one slice of garlic bread (real butter)
about 4oz. of white wine

around 8:30pm, i had a slice of blueberry pie and a small scoop of vanilla ice cream! totally worth every calorie.

hullo new one! just a comment on greek yogurt, i LOVE it, it took a few tries but now i use the nonfat trader joe's variety on everything - interchangeably with sour cream. and the nonfat doesn't feel like a sacrifice at ALL, it's just delicious. two of my favorite things are to eat it with my honey from home, or to put it on wrap sandwiches.
