oats!

happy friday!
i was still full this morning when i woke up, so i ate breakfast at work- plain instant oatmeal made with 1% milk and topped with about 1tsp sugar. it tasted fantastic, lasted me until 11am, and made me really happy.

snack
Fiber One bar

lunch
greek salad from Au Bon Pain (greens, black olives, feta, grilled chicken, tomatoes) with FF raspberry dressing. i couldn't have picked a more perfect lunch. it was great.

need more veggies

breakfast
coffee, my regular way
a slice of bakery french bread (not homemade) toasted with a smear of light cream cheese and a little pepper jelly we got this past weekend at the farmer's market.

snack
Fiber One bar

lunch
Amy's brand bean and rice burrito (no dairy). man, i never tire of those burritos!

snack
blueberries and edamame

dinner
sean, sarah, and i ate at bombay curry company, in del ray. i had butter chicken with rice, naan, some of a side of spinach & paneer, and a glass of house merlot. i ate my entire portion of chicken- it was really, really good and i'd been craving it's spiciness. the conversation was energetic, the wine was warming, and i had a really good time. which explains why i ate so much.

on the way home, sean and i stopped by taqueria poblano to say hello to anne, cindy, and jason, who were finishing up dinner there. i had a margarita.

overall, thursday was a fun day for food, but i definitely overate and should have eaten more vegetables!

blueberry wednesday

breakfast
about 3/4 c. cinnamon harvest kashi w/ skim milk
the cinnamon harvest variety is like shredded wheat with cinnamon. it is really delicious.

snack
Fiber One bar

lunch
PB&J on light wheat bread. crunchy PB and blueberry jam
sliced cucumbers with a little bit of ranch dip
1-oz. bag of nacho cheese doritos (i was still hungry after my s/w, so i invaded the vending machine. this means i didn't pack enough to eat in my lunch!)

snack
blueberries and edamame

dinner
i went out for sushi with suzanne. we split three pretty small maki rolls and i also had a light beer. it was medium-good sushi and nice to sit outdoors.

snack
when i got home around 8:30, i was still hungry, so i had a little chicken and mashed potatoes leftover from sunday night. i also had a little more blueberry pie and an herbal tea. it was a very blueberry day, wasn't it? it also was one of those days when i was just hungry all day.

a new blog

i'm starting this new blog today - mostly as a food journal. i want to write down everything i eat because i think that accounting for my eating will force me to make better, healthier, choices. i also love cooking and writing and thinking about food. so, to start, this is a food journal. but we'll see how it goes from there.

breakfast (7am)
one slice of homemade english muffin bread, toasted with about 1 tb crunchy peanut butter
4 oz. orange juice
vitamin
coffee with skim milk and 1 tsp sugar

it's unusual for me to have orange juice with my breakfast, but we had tons of juice leftover from the baby shower mimosas. i really enjoyed it - carly picked out the good stuff. i also loved every bite of my PB toast. that english muffin bread is fantastic, even a few days old. i made it in my beloved bread machine on saturday morning.

snack (10am)
Fiber One granola bar
half of a too-ripe banana (ick)

lunch (noonish)
Amy's brand bean & rice burrito (non dairy)
about 8 baby carrots
about 1/2 cup of greek yogurt with a cute sidecar of cherry sauce

snack (2pm ish)
generous handful of blueberries

this was the first time i'd tried greek yogurt - it seems to be all the rage recently. i bought the "fage" brand and mistakenly got the full fat. with a whopping 12g of fat per serving, i didn't want to eat the whole thing. my verdict - at first, it seemed overly sour but i got used to it. the cherry sauce was really good with the yogurt and cut the sourness. i think i'll buy it again, in the lower-fat variety. i bought my hunny the honey flavor (in the 2% variety) and he said it was just "okay."

dinner (6:30pm)
pasta (thin spaghetti) with jarred marinara sauce
one turkey italian sausage
parmesan cheese sprinkled on top
small salad (mixed greens, heirloom tomato, and cukes) with light raspberry vin dressing
one slice of garlic bread (real butter)
about 4oz. of white wine

around 8:30pm, i had a slice of blueberry pie and a small scoop of vanilla ice cream! totally worth every calorie.
